Why Seattle in 2005?

The Pacific Northwest has a strong identity and flavor.  We have grown much since the last Worldcon in Seattle, in 1961, and we would like to enter into the arena as a viable alternative to the standard West Coast Convention areas.  Our bid is not just about Seattle either, over the last few years ties have formed between Portland, Vancouver BC, eastern Washington and the rest of the Pacific Northwest that will provide a strong foundation of volunteers for this convention and potentially a future Worldcon.  We are yet realistic enough to understand that we still have much to learn and welcome those who wish to work with us no matter their location.

Seattle itself is a beautiful city with many unique and exciting visitor destinations. There are a number of excellent world-class attractions including The Space Needle, The Music Experience, The Museum of Flight, and Pike Place Market, there's no shortage of interesting sightseeing opportunities.  The natural wonders in the Pacific Northwest abound from our coastline to our mountains there is much to see when vacationing in our area.  There are fun things to do as well such as the underground city tour or a day trip out to see one of our many Native American Cultural attractions.

Fandom is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest.  We have many clubs that are growing daily, our costumers are strongly passionate about their efforts, our local artists and writers provide our staff with much needed information so that we can provide what they and the fans most want from our conventions.  Seattle is home to nearly a convention monthly within driving distance, ranging in size from several hundred to greater than 3000.

Seattle and the Pacific Northwest in the late summer is enchanting.  Warm enough to not require more than a light sweater as you sail around one of our many lakes, bays or down a river yet not to hot for the daily tourist travels. Sunshine is abundant with the occasional rain, not too humid, not cold but never too hot.  It is the perfect climate for a late summer convention.

We encourage you to vote for the NASFiC in 2005 to be held in Seattle and hope that you will join us for what is sure to be a very pleasant experience.
